In this article I want to take you through the basics of SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Online seo marketing consists of two things called on page and off page SEO. Lets first talk about what you need to do for your on page seo. The first thing you need to do is keyword research and you need to pick what keywords your main website or blog with be trying to rank for in the organic search results.

I recommend you go ahead and pick 3 main broad keywords for your main site which you will try and rank your home page for. Because the keywords are broad you will not see immediate results and you will not rank for them keywords until you do the off page seo which can take a long time to see results for broad keywords. However when you pick keywords to do posts to your blog or keywords to create new pages for your website you can pick long tail keywords which sometimes have very little competition to rank for which means all you need to do is your on page SEO targeting your long tail keyword and 9 times out of 10 this will be enough to rank you on the first page for your long tail keywords. If not you can do a little off page seo and we will go into that in just a moment but first lets take a look at what you do for on page.

So you have your 3 broad keywords for your home page. What you need to do is make sure all 3 keywords and placed in your title for your website or blog. You also need to place the keywords in your description and also put the keywords in your meta tags for the keywords. You will also need to put the keywords in your H1 tag which is your main heading for your website or blog.

You also need to mention the keywords at least 3 times in every 800 words for your home page. The same rules apply for all other pages you create for your website or blog with your long tailed keywords for other pages. With your home page try and rank it for 3 main broad keywords but when you create other pages like blog posts or single web pages only target one keyword and if you want a good chance to get on the first page of Google try and pick a long tailed keywords which will have less competition.

But regardless of how much competition your keywords have weather it be a broad keyword or a long tailed keyword you can still rank on the first page eventually as long as you take the time to do your off page seo when working on your online seo marketing. So what is off page seo and how do you go about doing it?

Well this is how I would explain it. Google and other search engines like Yahoo and Bing look at your website and they look at your keywords which you have places in your on page seo and that gives them a good understanding of what your page is all about but that is not enough for them to say ok we get what your site is about so we will rank you number 1 for them keywords.

You have got to understand that your not the only website out there trying to target them keywords and the search engines need to know why your site should rank higher than others. So this is what the search engines look for. They look for other websites linking to your site and for each website that does link back to your site that is classes as a kind of vote. If the website that is linking to your site is in the same niche market then this will be classed as a better vote. But it can get better. If the link that is linking back to your site is linked with the text of the keyword your trying to target then the vote gets even stronger. This is called a hyperlink and you need to know a bit of HTML code but If you look up how to do this its easy.

But it can get better. When doing your online seo marketing if your incoming links come from a high PR (Page Rank) site then the vote gets even stronger. Something you should also know. The search engines class .EDU domains very highly and if your site has a incoming hyperlink with your keyword coming from a .EDU site your site will get a massive vote and can get put number 1 spot for very broad highly competitive keywords.

So how do you get back links? Well it would take me to long to go into that in this blog post but I do have SEO training videos that show you how step by step if you would like to take a look?

I know a lot of you reading this will have tried lots of traffic methods like PPC marketing, article marketing, SEO, blogging, and many other traffic getting methods but for some reason you have just not see the traffic you would have liked. Well all I will say is give this ago today what I’m about to teach you and I’m sure you will se really good results.

So the first thing you need to do when media buying is to get your banners created. Just go to http://www.elance.com and post a job for some high quality banners to be created and just let them know you need all the normal sizes that you could place on websites using the likes of Google Adwords. Were not using Adwords here but if you get them banner sizes you will have all the right sizes. The worker on elance will know the sizes because they create banners all the time.

So now you have your banners you need to then go to Google and start doing some searches on broad keywords in your niche which get high traffic. Its very important that you know the keywords your searching on get traffic. You can find this out very easy by putting the keyword into the Google Keyword tool which you can find here…

Once you have does the search on a particular keyword in your niche market you then need to visit the top 10 websites listed in the organic search results that google bring back. The organic websites are listed down the left hand side of the page. Do not look at any websites which you find on the sponsored listings which are websites that are using Google Adwords. Why? Because the websites that are using Adwords might not be getting any real lasting traffic.

Were as the organic websites will continue to get real quality traffic for years to come. Now what you want to be looking for is other banners being advertised on the websites your researching. If you see other banners than your in luck because there is a very good chance that you can pay to get your banner shown.

The best way I have found to do this is to just get in direct contact with the site owner. You should be able to find a contact us page were you can send the site owner a quick email. Just be straight with them and let them know your interested in placing a banner on there home page and ask what there advertising prices are.

Most of the websites who already provide advertising will have a advertising section on there website which you can check out and this should give you the prices. If not then like I said just ask the site owner.

Even if you see no banners on the site its worth asking if the site owner would be willing to stick one up for you at the right price. Just one last thing to mention is that you should double check before making any payments for media buying that the site is getting good traffic and you can find that out by going to http://www.alexa.com/ and checking out the traffic that is coming into the site your thinking of buying media from.

So there you have it FaceBook is the most popular website out there online today and that is why facebook banners are a must when driving traffic to your website. But why fb? Why can’t you just go off and buy banner advertising from single websites that you choose yourself?

Well thats a good point and the answer to that is yes you can do that and I highly recommend you do that. So you can just go and look at top websites in your niche market and look at buying banner advertising space and that is a very good way to drive targeted traffic.

But when it comes to fb banners you have a slight advantage and heres why. The first thing is that fb have got an unlimited amount of traffic you can to tap into were as some sites you go and separately place banners on might not. Actually  will not have the same kind of traffic FaceBook can offer.

Not only that but with facebook banners you can really drill down in your targeting which is fantastic. Because facebook over the years have collected all this date on there users things like what movies they like and what food they like to eat and what sports there into and much more this means you can drill down and tell fb who you want to see your fb banners or ads as some might call them.

Can you see the advantage this has? This means instead of just targeting everyone which will bring you unwanted visitors you can target people that know 100% will be responsive. And if your paying with PPC this really is a life saver because if you think about it without the fb targeting you would be paying for clicks from people who just would not be interested.

Were as when your using fb banners you can say to facebook ok I want you to show my banner to people who are in the age of 25 to 50 and who like  the film dirty dancing or whatever film you like. It all depends on what your selling but you don’t have to stick with the film and age targeting.

You could say something like…

Show my facebook banners to only men in the age of 18 to 55 who like golf. You can be even more targeted if you like but I’m sure you get the idea and you can see how powerful this is unlike just going to a single website and saying I will pay you x amount to display my banner for x amount of months.

Like I said thats still a very good way to drive traffic but please understand the power of face book banners and make sure you use them in your advertising.

When your investing in a business online your not tide up having to stand behind a counter all day long waiting to serve customers when they walk in the door. Because your websites does the selling for you that means you can be doing anything else and still getting paid. Things like…

Eating, Sleeping, On holiday, Playing golf (or any other sport you like), Or spending time with loved ones. So as you can see a online business also gives you something better than money. It gives you time freedom which is what most people are really looking for in life. Before the internet was around it was very hard for the normal average joe to get time freedom so easily.

But if time freedom is what you really want then when investing your time in setting up a business online I would highly recommend that you look at selling information products. WHY? Because 1. Thats what people come online for 99% of the time for information and 2. Its easier for you because all you have to do once you make a sale is send your customer to a download page were they can download that e-book or audio or video training.

This means you have even more time freedom because you don’t even have to go to the post office to ship out any physical products. So when investing in a business online make sure you have a good thing about weather you could sell information products. If you can then I would seriously consider it because its a real time saver and its more convenient for your customers to because they get what they paid for instantly.

The attitude I had was this. I would think to myself its ok more money will come in next month and I was right but looking back I was doing myself no favors. Let me explain. You see to make money online you need a email list to sell to and what I had done is built an email list very slowly over the years when trying to figure out how to make money online.

The thing was when I was building that email list because I was still a newbie I didn’t know how to really make money from this list of 5,000 which is what I had at the time. Thankfully after 2 years I come across a system and my list loved it and I finally started to make good money with this small list of 5,000 but I was not building this list fast.

What I should have been doing is learning PPC and putting a % of my profit back into building my list faster so I had more people to sell this new system to but I didn’t. Instead I wasted the money on fancy cars and cloths and going out enjoying myself going on holidays and not thinking about what would happen when that list becomes useless because I’ve sold to everyone on it.

You see there is only so many people you can sell to on one list and you need to continuously bring in more leads onto your email list if you want to make life long income. It wasn’t until the list become nonresponsive because I had sold so many copies of the same product that I started thinking DAM I should have reinvested some of my profit and built this list even bigger.

But in a way I’m glad it happened because you learn from your mistakes and I hope you read this and learn from my mistake. Always reinvest your profit back into your online business to bring in more leads.

Now the traffic I’m going to show you how to get is in the Internet Marketing niche but I’m sure if you look around you can do this for any market. So what kind of traffic are we talking about here? Well its called solo ad’s. So what is a solo ad? Well its basically email traffic and this is how it works. You go out and find someone in your niche market who has already sent lots of targeted traffic to there website and more importantly you find someone who had built an email list with this targeted traffic.

What you can then do is pay that marketer to send an email out to his/her email list telling his/her customers about your website and what you have to offer. You will have to try and offer some good value to make it worth while for your Joint Venture partner to want to send out your information and website to his/her full email list.

Doing solo ads like this can send you a flood of highly targeted traffic overnight which can mean big money for you when you come to sell your products and services to them people you capture onto your mailing list. The best place that I know of and a safe place were you know you can work with trusted people to buy solo ads from is over at safe-swaps.com you will have to sign up for an account which is around $25 a month but as you will see its worth every penny if your serious about getting targeted traffic in the money making niche market.

On safe-swaps.com you can not only buy solo ads but if you also have your own email list you can do what is called aadswaps. So what is a adswap? Well its the same kind of traffic as what you would get when buying a solo ad but you don’t have to pay any money. Instead what you can do is login to safe-swaps and find other internet marketers with list sizes similar to yours and you both send out each others information and website links via email blasts.

As you can see this way of getting traffic is free and because the traffic is so targeted you really can’t go wrong.

So there you have it one of my best ways to get traffic and I’m giving you it totally free of charge just for reading my blog today. Just to finnish of I do have a word of warning. Doing adswaps can be a really good way of getting quality targeted traffic a but you can over do this. Remember you will also have to send out to your email list when doing adswaps and if you do to many swaps you can come across like a spammer to your email list and thats the last thing you want.

Pick your adswapping partners very carefully and make sure its a good fit for your email list. Always carefully read your JV’s email and check the subject lines before blasting out to your email list. I recommend only doing around 10 adswaps per month this way you will not come across as a spammer and more importantly you will have space and time for your own promotions. You still need to make money yourself right?

But the good news is you can buy solo ads all day long till your blue in the face, the more the better I say and its a fantastic way to get quality targeted traffic and over  safe-swaps.com its very cheap and safe. Why is it safe over at safe-swaps? Well over at safe-swaps it works a bit like eBay were you leave feedback after you have received a adswap or a solo ad and because no one wants bad feedback you always get the desired response. In other words you never get ripped off and you get the traffic you pay for.

Well 99% if the time and if you don’t just leave negative feedback so we can get rid of the bad apples on the site.

So how do you adswap and what is an adswap? Well the first thing I want to make clear here is you will need to have a list of customers in order to do an adswap in the first place but if you have a small list you will be able to do this.

Basicly an adswap is a JV (Joint Venture) what you do is you find another internet marketer in your niche market who has the same list size as you and what you do is you both agree to send an email out sending traffic.

So it’s basically a case of you scratch my back and I scratch yours. Its important that you find someone in the same niche market as you and to find someone who has the same size list as you or someone who can match your traffic you can send your JV partner.

So say you have a list of 10,000 customers that you can email out to. You will need to find someone who has 10,000 or more on his/her email list. Once you find someone just contact them and explain to them you would like to do an adswap.

If the adswap is done right both party’s win and get lots of free targeted traffic. The best place that I know to find adswaps is the warrior forum which is were internet marketers hang out. Just look for the JV section and post your adswap offer. Tell people what niche market you are in and tell them how big your list is and how many hits your JV partner can expect to get from you.

Please do not lie about your list size or hits you can send. This will only end in tears because you will get a bad reputation and no one will JV with you again. So you have been warned.

The first and obvious way would be to create your product yourself. Hopefully you took my advice in previous posts and picked a niche market that you’re interested in and if this is the case you should not have any problems creating your own information product.

If your interested in the niche market you will find it very easy to write an eBook on the subject or even create some screen capture video with power point slides to create the product. This is one way to go. If you are a bit lazy and you would like a product quick and easy you could go and find a ready made product that you could get master reseal rights to.

You can go to master-resale-rights.com and find an unlimited amount of products in different niche markets that you can pay for very cheap and use for your business. The good news is that most of the products are very good quality and you can keep 100% of the profits for each sale you make on your product. The downside can be that you will not be the only one with master resell rights to the product you have.

So you might want to get a new set of graphics made so your product looks different to the rest and stands out as your own.

Another thing you can do is look in the public domain for old books in your chosen niche. If you didn’t already know if a book is in the public domain this means anyone including you can take that book and change it, stick your own name on it and edit it in anyway and even sell it as is.

This could also be an easy and fast way to get a product together. The last way I would recommend is to just outsource the product creation. I recommend a place called elance.com. You can go here and tell people what you want doing and professional writers will bid on your job telling you how much they would charge you and you pick a winner to do the work for you at the right price.

The good thing about going this way is that the product will be totally unique to you and no one else will be able to sell it apart from you.

So its really important you do your research before making a decision on what your website is going to be about. You should take your time with this and make sure you have picked the right niche market for yourself because everyone is different and everyone had different interests.

This leads me on nicely to an important point. You should try and pick a niche market that you are interested in. And this is for a number of reasons. The first thing is if you pick a niche market that you are interested in you will be able to easily write about the subject and you will need to put content on your blog/website about your chosen niche.

Not only that but if you have an interest in the niche market you will love working on your website and love working and helping your customers which can only be a good thing. But what is a niche market?

Well a niche market is a group of people that have the same interest. A niche can be anything and in any subject. Lets just list a few so you can understand. Listed below is a list of different niche markets that can be profitable…

I could go on and on FOREVER. Yes there are unlimited niche markets out there. Just think of problems people have because what I have found is that problem niche markets are the most profitable. If you can solve a problem then people will pay you to help them.

What can you give your customers? Well it could be anything. You could sell them an information product which I recommend because you save money on shipping costs and you don’t have to go to the post office everyday. But you could sell them a physical product if you which. You could sell a DVD or an audio CD or a hard back book but like I said I would much rather sell what is called an eBook which is a book you can read online in PDF format or sell videos that will help your customers which they can watch online.

So how do you find out if a niche market is profitable? Well you need to do two things. You need to first see if people are searching for what you are wanting to sell. You can do this with a keyword tool. I like to use the Google keyword tool. Its very simple how it works you put in a keyword and hit search and Google will tell you how any times that keyword or keywords have been searched for on Google over the last month.

It will also how you keyword suggestions which is handy. What you need to be looking for is a keyword that has no less than 30,000 searches per month. So if you find that your keyword is only getting 20,000 searches a month then forget about that niche because it will not be profitable because you don’t have enough people searching.

The next thing you need to do to make sure that your niche is profitable is to see others selling information products in that niche. The best place to see if others are selling information products in that niche is by going to look on clickbank.com

Clickbank have over 10,000 niche maker websites selling information products so it’s a very good place to go and look.

Go to your local WH Smiths and look at all the niche market magazines to get ideas for website and products you could create. If there is a magazine on a niche market subject then you already know there is a demand for that subject.

So lets just say you have a website selling a DVD on how to train your dog to stop barking. You set the website up and you start sending targeted traffic to your website to try and start make sales.

Now a lot of marketers would use paid advertising to get traffic to the website which is fine as long as your still making a profit. This is we’re list building comes in. List building helps you make more sales so you can recoup your advertising investment and hopefully make some profit.

Let take a look at what happens. So you send visitors to your website trying to sell your “How To Stop Your Dog Barking” DVD. Most people would just send the web traffic straight to a lengthy sales page hoping to make a sale. The problem with that is this.

95% of people that come to your sales page and website will never buy the first time they see you. Why? Because they don’t know you and don’t trust you yet. So 95% of the people that come to your site if your not list building will hit the back button and never come back. Well they might come back at a later date if they see your advertising again but that is very unlikely to happen.

List building is the smart thing to do for a number of reasons which I will explain in just a moment. The smart thing to do would be to NOT send your web visitors straight to your sales page but to send them to a capture page. What is a capture page? It’s a small one page website which has links to your main blog/website and on that page you should give away a free product on “How To Stop Your Dog Barking” in exchange for the visitors email address.

They are many advantages in doing this. Think about it. You are giving a quality product away to the customer for free which they will like you for. This will also create trust. And most importantly you will never lose contact with your customers because you now have the ability to email all your customers with one email using Auto responder software. I use Aweber and Icontact for this.

As you can see list building is a must if you want to make maximum profit from your niche website. And think about this the longer you build your list and the bigger your list of customers grow the more profit you can make selling your products and services to this email list of customer.

So remember to ALWAYS send your web traffic to a capture page first and NEVER to a sales page.
